Privacy Policy

Mise is built on a simple principle: your data is yours. We collect only what we need to provide the service, we never sell it, and you can delete everything at any time.

1. What We Collect

When you use Mise, we collect and store the following information:

  • Account information: Your email address, display name, and hashed password (we never store your password in plaintext).
  • Household information: Number of adults and children, dietary restrictions, allergen profiles, and cooking preferences you configure during setup.
  • Recipe library: Recipes you import or create manually, including ingredients, instructions, dietary tags, and allergen flags.
  • Meal plans and pantry: Your generated meal plans, pantry items, stock levels, and purchasing rules.
  • Kroger OAuth tokens: When you connect your Kroger account, we store a secure OAuth access token and refresh token issued by Kroger. Your Kroger password is never seen or stored by Mise.
  • Billing information: Subscription status and billing history, managed by Stripe. Your payment card details are stored by Stripe, not by Mise.
  • Usage data: Basic logs of service usage (e.g., meal plan generations, rule firings) for service reliability and improvement. We do not use third-party analytics trackers.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use your data exclusively to provide and improve Mise:

  • Meal planning: We use your recipe library, household profiles, and preferences to generate personalized weekly meal plans.
  • Grocery automation: We use your Kroger OAuth token to search for products, apply your purchasing rules, and populate your grocery cart on your behalf.
  • Service communication: We send transactional emails (meal plan proposals, cart reminders, password resets) and occasional product updates. You can opt out of non-essential emails at any time.
  • Service improvement: Anonymized, aggregated usage patterns help us understand which features are working and where to focus development.

3. What We Don't Do

  • ✓We never sell your personal data to anyone, ever.
  • ✓We never share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing.
  • ✓We do not use your recipe library or household data to train AI models for any purpose other than generating your meal plans.
  • ✓We do not track you across the web.

The only third parties who receive your data are:

  • Kroger API — when you connect your account and authorize Mise to act on your behalf for grocery ordering. Kroger's own Privacy Policy governs data shared with their platform.
  • Stripe — for processing subscription payments. Stripe's Privacy Policy governs data shared with their platform.

4. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service.

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from your account settings. Deletion is permanent and irreversible — your recipe library, meal plans, pantry, rules, and household data will be erased from our systems. We may retain anonymized, aggregated data (not linked to you) for service improvement purposes.

If you disconnect your Kroger account, we immediately delete your stored OAuth tokens. Your Kroger account itself is unaffected.

5. Security

We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and secure token storage. However, no system is 100% secure. Please use a strong, unique password and notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the service evolves. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email and update the "Last updated" date above.
